U.S. President Trump has downplayed the significance of aggressive acts by Beijing, saying 'that's just how the world works.' This includes his view on the arrest last month of two Chinese citizens suspected of smuggling dangerous pathogens into the United States.
Agence France-Presse reported that Trump, on Fox News Channel's 'Sunday Morning Futures,' recorded on June 27 and aired on June 29, said Washington engages in similar actions.
He said: 'Don't you think we also fight fire with fire? We do, we do a lot of good things… that's how the world works. It's a dangerous world.'
Trump made these remarks in response to questions about how he views issues such as Chinese intellectual property theft, hacking of U.S. telecommunications systems, and controversies surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
2 Chinese Citizens Accused of Smuggling Toxic Fungus into U.S.
Regarding the case last month in which two Chinese citizens were charged with smuggling toxic fungus into the United States, Trump also downplayed its significance.
The Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan stated that 33-year-old Yunqing Jian and 34-year-old Zunyong Liu have been charged with conspiracy, smuggling, false statements, and visa fraud.
The U.S. Department of Justice stated that the two conspired to smuggle a fungus known as 'Fusarium graminearum' into the United States. This fungus can cause 'fusarium head blight' in wheat, barley, corn, and rice.
However, agricultural experts interviewed by Reuters indicated that this fungus has already been widespread in the United States for more than a century, poses minimal risk to food safety, and can be controlled by spraying fungicides, becoming hazardous only if ingested in very large and frequent amounts.
Responding to this, Trump downplayed the matter, saying: 'You don't know where that stuff came from. I mean, did it come from that country? Or did a couple of odd individuals just happen to bring it in?'
Speaking of the ongoing U.S.-China trade dispute, Trump appeared satisfied with the status quo, saying, 'We get along well with China.'
'I think getting along well with China is a very good thing; it's just that they're paying substantial tariffs.'
Japanese Media: China Plans to Invite Trump to 'September 3rd Military Parade'

The sources also said the U.S. has proposed that Chinese President Xi Jinping visit the United States in September, coinciding with the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
