(US, 23rd) — A man was shot dead on the 22nd while attempting to break into US President Trump’s private residence, Mar-a-Lago, in Florida.
The US Secret Service stated that the man was in his early 20s and from North Carolina. At around 1:30 a.m. on the 22nd, he trespassed into the security perimeter of Mar-a-Lago and was subsequently shot dead by Secret Service personnel and officers from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office in Florida.
The man was discovered near the north gate of Mar-a-Lago, apparently carrying a firearm and a can of fuel. He was ordered to drop his weapon. He put down the fuel can, but then raised his gun in a shooting stance and was shot dead by police. No Secret Service or law enforcement officers were injured in the incident. The man’s background and motive are still under investigation.
Mar-a-Lago, located in the resort area of Palm Beach, Florida, is a private estate owned by Trump. According to US media reports, Trump was in the White House at the time of the incident and not at Mar-a-Lago.
On September 15, 2024, while Trump was playing golf at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, an armed man appeared near the course. This incident was deemed a “suspected assassination attempt” by the FBI. On February 4 of this year, the man was sentenced to life imprisonment on charges including attempting to assassinate a presidential candidate.
