(Kuala Belait, 3rd) To promote a healthy singing culture on campus, create a positive and uplifting school environment, enhance students’ interest in learning Mandarin, and facilitate the dissemination and application of Mandarin in schools, Chung Hwa Middle School in Kuala Belait organized the in-school “Shining New Stars” Mandarin Singing Competition. The event was held on June 19th (Friday) from 8:00 am to 11:30 am at the multi-functional audio-visual hall of the Dasheng Humanities Education Building, attracting a total of 33 enthusiastic student participants who showcased their singing talent and stage presence.
This competition was divided into three categories: Upper Primary Non-Chinese Group, Upper Primary Chinese Group, and Secondary School Group. Contestants took to the stage in turn, expressing genuine emotion through their singing and confidence in their performance and fully demonstrating the results of their learning. The atmosphere at the scene was lively and engaging.
After evaluation by the panel of judges, the champions in each group were: Luo Gan for the Upper Primary Non-Chinese Group, Zhou Wenfeng for the Upper Primary Chinese Group, and Xu Anqi for the Secondary Group. The runners-up were Reisha, Ke Xiaowei, and Deng Kaiwen; while the third places went to Qitana, Shen Jiaxi, and Li Qier.
The school expressed hope that by organizing such singing competitions, they can provide students with opportunities to showcase their talents and gain stage experience, as well as to discover promising campus singing talents. They also aim to encourage students to increase their interest in and proficiency with Mandarin through singing Mandarin songs, further enriching the school’s cultural life.
In addition, the school gave special thanks to the Overseas Community Affairs Council, Republic of China (Taiwan) for their support and sponsorship of this “Shining New Stars” Mandarin Singing Competition, making it possible for the event to be successfully held. The students also had the chance to observe, exchange, and learn from each other through the competition, continuously improving their singing skills and boosting their confidence in performing in Mandarin. All gained greatly from the experience.
