First ASEAN Team & Youth Muay Thai Championship: Sarawak Clinches 4 Gold, 5 Silver, 1 Bronze

(Kuching, 2nd) The inaugural 2025 ASEAN Team and Youth Muay Thai Championship recently concluded successfully, with the Sarawak contingent returning with honors, clinching 4 gold medals, 5 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal.
According to Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), among the 9 finalists from the “Land of the Hornbills”, 4 athletes emerged champions and won gold. The competition was held at Paradigm Mall in Petaling Jaya.
Razie Rafizzie secured Sarawak's first gold medal by defeating Selangor's Muhammad Adam in the 55kg category.
Next, Muhammad Syarul Fareez added another gold by overcoming Selangor's Ali Murtaza in the 50kg category.
Sarawak’s female athletes also showcased their prowess, with Noor Qasliya Mohamad Hardi and Hani Anissa Ismail each clinching gold medals. The former defeated Kuala Lumpur’s Aisya Sofea in the 40kg category, while the latter eliminated Negeri Sembilan’s Dinar Fitrah in the 60kg category.
The 5 silver medals were won by Fatiha Hanum Abdul Hasrul (45kg), Muhammad Nur Aiman Kamaruddin (66kg), Mohammad Nurhizbur Asyraf Mohd Nazri (50kg), Rizz Ezzandy Iswandy (40kg), and Dylan Casey Daniel (40kg).
The bronze medal was earned by Muhammad Rizqin (45kg).
President of the Sarawak Muay Thai Association (PMNS) Jumaat Ibrahim expressed satisfaction and high praise for the team’s performance.
“This is a good start for all the young athletes. I hope you continue to train hard and keep improving your skills.
Although this tournament is just an exchange event, it is crucial for the athletes to gain experience and prepare for larger-scale competitions.”
He reminded the athletes to maintain their form, adding that the association plans to continue sending them to more similar events to prepare for the 2026 National Games (SUKMA) in Selangor.
Jumaat also thanked the Sarawak Sports Council (MSNS), Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), all coaches for their efforts, and expressed gratitude to the Malaysian Muay Thai Association (PMM) president for supporting the inclusion of Muay Thai in the 2026 National Games.
