Brunei's Total Population Exceeds 450,000, Brunei-Muara District Has the Most Residents

(Bandar Seri Begawan, 8th) According to Brunei's official population estimate for 2025, the total population of Brunei is 458,600, with an annual growth rate of 0.7%. This data reveals a slow growth trend in Brunei's population, with steady increases between 2020 and 2025.
According to statistics, there are 244,800 males in Brunei, accounting for 53.4% of the total population; while the female population is 213,800, accounting for 46.6%. The gender ratio is relatively balanced.
In terms of regional population distribution, Brunei-Muara District has the largest population, about 332,700 people, making up 72.5% of the total population; next is Belait District with a population of 67,900, or 14.8%; Temburong and Tutong Districts have populations of 48,500 and 9,500 respectively, accounting for 10.6% and 2.1% of the total.
Regarding residency status, Brunei citizens comprise the largest proportion at 351,700 people or 76.7% of the total population; permanent residents number 26,500, making up 5.8%; while residents with foreign (green identity card) status total 80,400, accounting for 17.5%.
In terms of ethnic composition, Malays are the largest ethnic group in Brunei, accounting for 73.5% of the total population, or 337,200 people; the Chinese population is 44,500, accounting for 9.7%; other ethnic groups make up 16.8%, or 76,900 people.
Age distribution shows that in Brunei, children and teenagers aged 0 to 14 account for 19.8%—that is, 90,800 people; the largest age group is adults aged 15 to 64, making up 72.3% of the total population, or 331,500 people; those aged 65 and above number 36,300, accounting for 7.9% of the total.
