(Kuala Lumpur, 17th) A 55-year-old woman died after her motorcycle crashed into a suddenly opened car door, causing her to fall onto the road and be run over by a passing lorry. Her 20-year-old son sustained minor injuries to his leg and arm.
This fatal accident occurred around 12:20 PM on Monday, near the traffic light junction at the 5-mile mark of Ipoh Road, Kuala Lumpur.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department Chief Assistant Director Mohamad Zainuri mentioned in a press release that the police received a report at 1:45 PM involving a motorcycle, a car, and a lorry.
He stated that at the time of the incident, the deceased and her son were riding a motorcycle together, traveling from the 5-mile mark of Ipoh Road towards Kepong.
"As they were passing the location, a Toyota Vios parked on the left shoulder of the road suddenly opened its door, and the motorcyclist couldn't avoid it, crashing into the door."
After the collision, the rider fell onto the road, and the mother sitting in the rear unfortunately fell onto the right lane, where she was run over by a lorry that was moving.
"Both were subsequently taken to Kuala Lumpur General Hospital for emergency treatment, but the mother succumbed to her injuries while the rider suffered minor injuries to the leg and arm."
Mohamad Zainuri pointed out that the lorry driver involved is a 30-year-old man who was unharmed. The police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the 1987 Road Transport Act (Dangerous driving causing death).
This is the second fatal accident to have occurred in this vicinity within just four days. On the 13th of this month, a car driven by a Bangladeshi male driver lost control and killed a pedestrian before falling off the elevated bridge at this road segment.
