(Miri, 10th) Sarawak's Minister of Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, stated that there are no major issues regarding gender equality in Sarawak, and more women are taking on senior roles and playing various roles across different fields.

He said that women in Sarawak continue to prove their capabilities in various fields, including holding senior positions and preserving cultural heritage. Many women are now pursuing higher education in universities, and in most universities, the number of female students exceeds that of male students.

Lee Kim Shin made these remarks while speaking at the International Women's Day dinner organized by the Miri Orang Ulu Women's Association.

He pointed out that this year's theme for International Women's Day, "Accelerate Action," highlights the importance of taking swift and decisive actions to achieve gender equality. It also aligns with the United Nations' Fifth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), which focuses on eliminating discrimination and promoting full participation of women in society.

He also said that the efforts made by the Miri Inland Women's Association in preserving traditional culture, including organizing dance and handicraft courses for the younger generation, are commendable.

"Traditional skills such as bead-making and weaving by inland residents should be preserved because they not only symbolize cultural identity but also have the potential to be a high-value source of income in the international market.

He noted that in today's modern era, where many things are produced automatically, handmade products have become highly valuable and can fetch high prices in the international market.
