(Miri, 10th) Miri police raided an entertainment venue in Batu Niah, arresting 7 men suspected of drug trafficking, seizing ketamine and ecstasy.
Miri District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner (ACP) Alexson Naga Anak Chabu confirmed in a statement that around 12:35 a.m. on March 8, 2025, the Miri District Narcotics Crime Investigation Unit conducted a raid at an entertainment venue in Batu Niah, Miri, arresting 7 men suspected of drug trafficking, including 3 foreign nationals and 4 local men, aged between 20 and 47.
During the raid, police discovered and seized suspected drugs, including 9.9 grams of ketamine and ecstasy pills, with an estimated market value of approximately 808 ringgit.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 39A(1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the 1952 Dangerous Drugs Act. If convicted, the individuals involved will face imprisonment for no less than 2 years and no more than 5 years, and whipping of no less than 3 lashes and no more than 9 lashes. The suspects have been taken to the Miri court to apply for extended detention for investigation.
Police urge the public to actively provide leads on drug-related crimes and report them to nearby police stations to jointly combat drug crimes and maintain social safety.
