ASEAN Disaster Information Conference Opens: Promoting Regional Cooperation in Disaster Prevention and Reduction

(Bandar Seri Begawan, 9th) The 6th ASEAN Disaster Assistance Center Information Management Network (6th AIM-NET) Workshop opened yesterday, marking another important step in strengthening ASEAN's disaster data sharing capabilities.
The opening ceremony of the workshop was held at the Gadong Sembawang Hotel and was officiated by Brunei's Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Hamidah.

Brunei's National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) hosted this workshop with the aim of leading the regional disaster information management agenda.
The meeting was co-chaired by AIM-NET focal points from Brunei and Cambodia, providing an important communication platform for disaster management personnel, including delegations from ASEAN member countries, the ASEAN Secretariat, the ASEAN Disaster Assistance Center, and other ASEAN strategic partners.
In her welcoming address, the Deputy Permanent Secretary Hamidah emphasized that the true value of disaster information lies not merely in the availability of data.
Instead, the real strength lies in our collective ability to process and transform such information, converting it into effective action that plays a crucial driving role, especially in saving lives and minimizing disaster risks.
She pointed out that disaster information management is at the core of this capability. Since the establishment of the ASEAN Information Management Network (AIM-NET), it has evolved into an integral part of strengthening ASEAN's resilience.

This includes fostering enhanced collaboration among information management practitioners, deepening the understanding of emergency operations center (EOC) functions, and establishing regional standards that support interoperable systems.

While advancing digital transformation, she also emphasized the need to ensure that national information systems do not operate in isolation.

On the contrary, they need to operate as an interconnected network in order to achieve smooth and effective data sharing at the regional level.

In coordination with the implementation of the ASEAN Disaster Management and Emergency Management Work Plan (AADMER) 2026-2030, AIM-NET serves as a strategic platform aimed at strengthening data sharing protocols and leveraging digital technology to achieve more efficient, informed, and resilient disaster management.
Throughout the course of the plan's implementation, discussions will revolve around building a long-term framework through the AIM-NET 2026-2030 Work Plan.

This workshop aims to identify gaps and new priorities in addressing the complexities of today's climate and disaster crises.

By formulating more integrated strategies, AIM-NET aims to further strengthen both technical and operational capacities and become the core of data management under the ASEAN security framework.
