(United States, 26th) Latest data shows that as of the afternoon of the 25th, the large-scale winter storm that hit many parts of the United States starting on the 23rd once caused power outages for more than 1 million users.

According to PowerOutage.us, a website providing real-time outage data, as of 4 PM Eastern Time, around 1.07 million users had lost power due to the massive winter storm. The southern states of Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana, Georgia, and Texas were most severely affected, with power outage rates in Tennessee and Mississippi exceeding 10%. The number of outage cases later dropped to 985,000.

According to NBC News, 23 states from the southern to the northeastern United States have declared a state of emergency. Multiple media outlets quoting a meteorologist from the US National Weather Service reported that as of the morning of the 25th, all types of winter weather alerts across the US covered about 213 million people.

New York City Mayor Mamdani stated on the same day that at least five people died outdoors in New York City during this snowy weekend. Local police said these appeared to be homeless individuals and are investigating whether their deaths were caused by the extreme cold.

NBC News, citing information from the Louisiana health department, reported that two men died locally from hypothermia caused by the winter storm.

CNN reported that the extreme cold is expected to last for a week, and homeless people or those whose homes experience power outages for several consecutive days will face even greater risks.

According to U.S. flight tracking websites, as of 4 PM on the 25th, there had been 10,981 flight cancellations and 3,295 flight delays nationwide that day. At Washington Reagan National Airport, the cancellation rate was nearly 100%, and the cancellation rates at New York's LaGuardia Airport and Philadelphia International Airport exceeded 90%.

This massive winter storm has brought widespread heavy snowfall, sleet, freezing rain, and extremely cold weather. The U.S. National Weather Service expects the storm to leave the East Coast and enter the Atlantic on the 26th, but snowfall and freezing will still occur in many areas on the 26th, and low temperatures will continue for several more days.
