(Turkey, 26th) Turkish media reported on the 25th that a headless female corpse, with both legs also cut off, was found at night in a garbage bin in Istanbul, the country's largest city, sparking outrage among women's groups.
According to AFP, quoting Turkey’s Dogan News Agency, the corpse was wrapped in a sheet and dumped in a garbage bin in the Sisli district. On the evening of the 24th, a scavenger searching for recyclable materials made the discovery.
Investigators identified the deceased as a 37-year-old Uzbek woman.
They did not find the victim's head or legs at the time, but upon reviewing surveillance footage, discovered that two men had discarded a suitcase in another trash bin. What was found in the suitcase has yet to be disclosed.
Dogan News Agency reported that police arrested two Uzbek suspects at Istanbul Airport a few hours later while they were attempting to leave the country. Police later arrested a third suspect.
Women's rights groups expressed anger at this case and called on the public to join protest marches held in Istanbul and Ankara.
According to footage provided by NGOs, large crowds gathered at Osmanbey Metro Station in the Sisli district, holding signs and banners with messages such as "Stop male violence", "We demand justice for murdered women", and "Migrant women are not alone".
Feminist organizations posted on social media platform X, saying: "We still do not know the victim's name, but we do know this crime was caused by male violence!" The post called for people to "bring our anger to the streets so that no more women are lost".
According to statistics from the "We Will Stop Femicide" platform, in 2025, 294 women in Turkey were killed by men, and another 297 women were found dead under suspicious circumstances.
