(Manila, 22nd) Philippine Senate Deputy Minority Leader Hontiveros stated today that under Article 11 of the PH-US Extradition Treaty, the Philippines has a clear legal basis to temporarily extradite "Kingdom of Jesus Christ" leader Quiboloy to the United States for trial.
She explained that even though Quiboloy currently faces cases in the Philippines, he may still be extradited to the US for trial in accordance with the provisions, and can return to the Philippines to continue facing local charges once legal proceedings abroad conclude.
“Even if he has pending cases here, he can still be taken to the United States to stand trial first, and then return to face the charges here. This ensures that the Philippine cases do not disappear, while also helping the victims in the United States.” she pointed out in a statement.
Hontiveros criticized Quiboloy for using his influence to evade legal responsibility, including intimidating witnesses and avoiding congressional summons. She stressed that victims in the US have waited too long and further delays should not be allowed.
Earlier this year, the US government formally requested extradition. Quiboloy was indicted in California in 2021 on charges including sex trafficking of minors, fraud, and large-scale cash smuggling.
House Deputy Minority Leader and Akbayan Party-list Representative Sendayen also urged the Department of Justice to accelerate extradition procedures and swiftly handle Quiboloy’s pending local cases.
He warned that, even while in detention, Quiboloy continues to wield immense political and religious influence, threatening investigations and the safety of witnesses. Sendayen stated bluntly: “No matter how he claims to be the ‘Son of God,’ no one should be above the law, especially when it comes to such grave crimes against children and humanity.”
