Former Taiwanese leader Ma Ying-jeou will lead Taiwanese university students to Mainland China to participate in exchange activities such as the Straits Forum.
On the 11th, Xiao Xucen, the executive director of the Ma Ying-jeou Foundation, released a press statement stating that, at the invitation of Mainland China, Ma Ying-jeou will lead the "Da Jiu Academy" students on a visit to Mainland China from June 14 to 27. During the trip, they will attend the 17th Straits Forum held in Xiamen, Fujian, and a "Cross-Strait Joint Promotion of Chinese Culture" event in Dunhuang, Gansu.
Xiao Xucen revealed that in addition to Ma Ying-jeou and the Taiwanese students, the trip will also include himself, Ma Ying-jeou's office director Wang Guangci, and honorary professor at National Chengchi University Qiu Kunxuan.
Xiao Xucen stated that the current cross-strait situation is unprecedentedly severe, but the more severe the situation, the more necessary the exchanges are. Especially after U.S. leader Trump initiated the tariff war, the global situation has changed dramatically, making the peace and stability of cross-strait relations even more important.
Xiao Xucen emphasized that Ma Ying-jeou always believes that youth is the future of cross-strait relations, and the future hope for such relations lies in frequent youth exchanges. Over the past two years, Ma Ying-jeou has led Taiwanese youth on visits to Mainland China three times and has invited students and faculty from Mainland Chinese universities to Taiwan twice. This is to let all sectors know that cross-strait civilian exchanges are very active, and that cross-strait youth engage enthusiastically. This is crucial in resolving hostilities between the two sides and is also a way to convey to world public opinion that there is still a willingness for cross-strait exchanges and that there is hope for peace.
Xiao Xucen stated that although the Ma Ying-jeou Foundation is a civil organization, it is very willing to assist the government in promoting cross-strait exchanges and hopes to be a support for the government, with the goal of ensuring cross-strait exchanges are not interrupted. Under Ma Ying-jeou's leadership, the Ma Ying-jeou Foundation will continue to promote mutual visits between youth from both sides of the strait through civilian exchanges. This not only aligns with the interests and well-being of Taiwanese people but also contributes to cross-strait peace and regional stability in the world.
