On Monday (August 17), China Post issued commemorative stamps for the 100th anniversary of the birth of the late former General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, Jiang Zemin. The stamps sold out online in less than a minute.
According to Hong Kong's Ming Pao, China Post began selling the "Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Comrade Jiang Zemin's Birth" stamps at 9 a.m. that day, attracting crowds of stamp collectors from all over China to line up early in the morning to purchase them. Netizens from places like Tianjin and Beijing said they were already waiting outside the post offices at 4 a.m., and some even queued overnight.
The Paper reported that at 8 a.m., the front of the Shanghai Postal Building was packed with people, with many stamp enthusiasts arriving early to wait for the stamps to go on sale.
The nameplate of the Shanghai Postal Museum inside the building was inscribed by Jiang Zemin himself. The report said that this special connection made this site a particularly significant first-issue location for many stamp collectors.
China Post issued a set of two commemorative stamps, titled "Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Comrade Jiang Zemin's Birth," along with one commemorative miniature sheet.
