(Bandar Seri Begawan, 8th) Brunei is currently in the southwest monsoon season. The Brunei Meteorological Department points out that under the peripheral circulation effects of Typhoon “Bavi”, the country will experience active weather from midweek to the weekend, with expected thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds. Sea waves are also forecast to rise to “moderate to rough” levels, and the public is urged to remain vigilant.
The Meteorological Department stated that although Typhoon “Bavi” is about 3,000 kilometers away in the Pacific Ocean, its peripheral circulation will still indirectly affect Brunei’s weather, bringing thunderstorms and intermittent strong winds, with maximum wind speeds reaching up to 55 km/h.
Active weather is expected to last from Wednesday, July 8 to Friday, July 10.
Regarding sea conditions, wave heights are currently between 0.5 to 1.5 meters, but are expected to rise to about 2.5 meters, reaching a “rough” level, from Thursday, July 9 to Saturday, July 11.
The Meteorological Department reminds that strong winds could cause trees to fall and roof damage. There is also a risk of sudden floods (flash floods) in low-lying areas. In the meantime, small boats and recreational sea activities are dangerous during this period, and the public should avoid such activities.
The Meteorological Department stated it will continue to monitor weather changes and issue timely weather alerts.
The public may obtain the latest weather updates through the Brunei WX mobile application, the Meteorological Department’s official website, or social media platforms, or call the weather hotline 114 for the latest information.
