2008 Miss Hong Kong third runner-up Ma Sai (now known as Ma Wanying) has in recent years faded from the spotlight and ventured into the Chinese business world. Recently, she looked back on her turbulent showbiz career on social media, sharing that she tasted overnight fame at just 20 years old. She admitted that the company heavily promoted her at the time, giving her excellent resources at the start of her career, collaborating with A-list male stars such as Ron Ng, Raymond Lam, Michael Tse, and Wayne Lai. After only three years in the industry, she won the 'Most Improved Female Artiste' award, and by the age of 26, she had become the lead actress in the drama "Detective Columbo," once believing her career would continue to flourish smoothly.
In the video, Ma Sai revisited how she suddenly fell from the peak of her career. At the time, rumors surfaced about her having a lesbian relationship with Chinese female producer Wang Ziqi, causing a stir. Later, an indecent video of her wearing lingerie in front of the camera was leaked online, shattering her pure image overnight. It was reported that a series of scandals led to her being indefinitely “frozen” by TVB, and eventually, she quietly left the Hong Kong entertainment scene after her contract expired in 2015. Regarding this dark period, Ma Sai clarified in the video that she was not, as rumored, “frozen out” by TVB. She said, "At the time, I fell into severe self-doubt, had persecutory delusions, and even felt that any passerby picking up a phone could be secretly filming me." Ma Sai recalled locking herself tightly into the role of a victim, so she chose to leave Hong Kong.
Looking back at this low point in her life, Ma Sai candidly said that the word “determination” was what kept her going. During her time at TVB, she acted in popular dramas such as "Will Power," "Silver Spoon, Sterling Shackles," and "Curse of the Royal Harem." But after moving to Beijing, she started from scratch, letting go of her former aura, and persisted even when she went half a year on set without a single line. After marrying and having a daughter with a non-celebrity, she transitioned to the business world, establishing her own brand and achieving notable success in live-stream ecommerce.
