TWICE’s First Member Not Renewing Contract: Jeongyeon Becomes Byeon Woo-seok’s Junior

South Korean girl group “TWICE” is facing contract uncertainties, with members such as Tzuyu and Jihyo reportedly considering branching out on their own. On the 10th, Jeongyeon was the first to announce she will not be renewing her contract, bidding farewell to “JYP Entertainment” and joining her sister Gong Seung-yeon’s management company, “VARO Entertainment,” thereby becoming Byeon Woo-seok’s junior.

Jeongyeon delivered the news to fans through a handwritten letter: “From when I was a teenager up until now, I have walked a long path together with JYP. Now, I will be leaving JYP and am preparing to start a new chapter in a new place.” She admitted that leaving a place she had become so familiar with naturally made her feel afraid, “But because of the members and ONCE (the fandom name) who have always believed in me, I was able to summon up my courage. I sincerely thank the members and ONCE, for whom I feel gratitude beyond what words can express, and also the entire JYP Family who has helped me grow along the way.”

She insisted on making the announcement herself because, “Although I am moving away from my original position and starting a new challenge, the most important core in my life—TWICE—will remain unchanged, just as it is now. To be able to stand before ONCE as a member of TWICE will, for me, always be my top priority.” VARO Entertainment also announced that they are delighted to work with Jeongyeon: “We will support her as she embarks on a brand new challenge as an actress, and will be a strong and reliable partner, fully ensuring she can smoothly continue her group activities in every aspect.”
