First Round of US-Iran Talks Concludes, Agreement Reached on Roadmap to End War Within 60 Days

The first round of talks between the United States and Iran, held in Switzerland, concluded in the early hours of the 22nd. Mediators Pakistan and Qatar said in a joint statement that the US and Iran have agreed on a roadmap with the goal of reaching a final agreement to end the war within 60 days.

According to comprehensive foreign media reports, technical talks on all issues will continue this week at the Bürgenstock Resort in Switzerland.

The joint statement said: “The high-level committee has agreed on a roadmap, aiming to reach a final agreement within 60 days, laying the foundation for further immediate technical-level talks.”

In addition, all parties concerned have reached a consensus on the mechanism to end the conflict in Lebanon and have established communication channels to help ensure the safe passage of merchant ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

The statement further said that the representatives agreed to establish a conflict de-escalation group, under the mediation of the US and Iran, Lebanon, and mediators, to ensure compliance with the agreement to cease military actions within Lebanese territory.

On the 21st, the Iranian negotiating delegation suddenly suspended talks with the US at Bürgenstock, Switzerland, after US President Trump issued another threatening statement. Iran's Islamic Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf also warned the US to "watch their words."

Subsequently, a senior US diplomat involved in the talks told CNN that the Iranian negotiators remained on-site, and US Vice President Vance and other US representatives were "expected to work through the night."

Pakistani Prime Minister Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Munir, as well as Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed, also participated in the talks.
