Japanese manga artist Ryo Tatsuki predicted in her work “The Future I Saw” that a devastating earthquake would occur at 4:18 AM on July 5th (3:18 AM Malaysia time), attracting attention from netizens in Japan, South Korea, and both sides of the strait.
As the predicted time arrived, over 230,000 people flooded into the Japanese earthquake monitoring YouTube live stream, but the so-called “doomsday earthquake” did not occur. Instead, small-scale earthquakes frequently occurred in Kagoshima, prompting waves of jokes from netizens in various countries.
In the manga, Ryo Tatsuki’s prophetic dream indicates that on July 5th, 2025, an even more destructive earthquake than the March 11th quake 14 years ago would hit. The seabed between Japan and the Philippines would suddenly erupt and rupture, triggering a 100-meter-high tsunami that would submerge one-third of Japan’s territory. At the same time, a “new continent” would rise, connecting Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the Philippines.
As the time came, nearly 250,000 people crowded into Japan’s earthquake monitoring live stream, including netizens from Japan, South Korea, and both sides of the strait, waiting for “doomsday.” However, only the “Tokara Islands” south of Kyushu’s Kagoshima experienced frequent small earthquakes around magnitude 3.
Some netizens quipped in the comments: “Why is it only 3.2?”, “As expected, it’s a bluff. I’m going back to sleep”, “Okay, there actually was an earthquake, I’ll give her half the credit”, “How is Ryo Tatsuki going to face people tomorrow?”, “My eyelids are twitching more than the crust”, “The person next to me is so sound asleep, should’ve just slept with her…”, “Just in case, I’ll wait till 5:18.”
Regarding the huge controversy sparked by her work, Ryo Tatsuki said in an earlier interview that she always maintains an objective view of the matter and hopes everyone can stay calm. The fact that people attach such importance to the issue shows that disaster prevention awareness is rising, which is a good thing. Also, the disaster she foresaw is followed not by people’s dispiritedness and helplessness, but by strong will, unity, and moving toward a bright future.
It is worth noting that since June 21st, the “Tokara Islands” south of Kagoshima have already experienced thousands of small earthquakes. In the global earthquake monitoring “Earthquake 3D Live” images, the data has skyrocketed, much like Taiwan after the strong Hualien quake on 0403 last year. (News Source: China Times News Network)
