(Miri, 28th) A fire broke out early this morning at Kampung Lian Lut Jaya, where a 70-year-old man sustained minor burns. His home, along with 3 cars and 3 motorcycles, was completely destroyed by the blaze.
The injured elderly man was subsequently sent by his son to a nearby hospital for further treatment, while his 66-year-old wife was unharmed.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department, the fire occurred at the occupant’s single-storey house. Upon receiving the alert at 3:58am, personnel from the Miri Fire and Rescue Department immediately responded, with support from the Lopeng Fire and Rescue Department, to carry out the rescue operation.
The fire consumed a residential area of about 40 by 60 square feet and quickly spread to six nearby vehicles. Of these, 3 cars and 3 motorcycles were completely destroyed, while firefighters managed to save another 3 cars and a boat, preventing further losses.
Firefighters used hoses and a 300-foot-long water hose to conduct both frontal and defensive firefighting efforts, drawing water from the fire truck’s tank and a nearby hydrant; Lopeng Fire and Rescue personnel assisted in extinguishing the fire from behind the house.
The fire was brought under control at 4:33am and fully extinguished by 5:58am. The cause of the fire and the total loss are still under investigation.
