Direct flights between China and India have officially resumed after five years, with the first flight landing in Guangzhou in the early hours of Monday (October 27).
According to Yicai Global, this direct flight was operated by IndiGo, which has the highest market share in India. The flight departed from Kolkata at 10:07 p.m. local time in India on Sunday (October 26) and flew to Guangzhou, with a journey of just over three hours.
Previously, on October 9, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at a regular press conference that China and India would resume direct flights by the end of October. This move is the latest reflection of the important consensus reached between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Modi during their meeting in Tianjin on August 31, and is a positive measure to facilitate friendly exchanges for the more than 2.8 billion people of both countries.
Earlier this month, India's Ministry of External Affairs announced that after technical discussions between the civil aviation authorities of both India and China, an agreement was reached to resume direct flights between designated locations in both countries by the end of this month.
