(Miri, 30th) North Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA) President Chua Tuan Jin stated that the support of members is the key driving force behind the continual progress of the association. Moving forward, the association will continue to strengthen its development, enhance organizational vitality, and expand its social influence.
He said that, on behalf of the North Sarawak Journalists Association, he would like to extend a warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to all members present at the meeting. He emphasized that members’ enthusiastic participation fully demonstrates everyone’s support and concern for the association, which is also an important motivation for the association’s continuous advancement.
He pointed out that, in the past year, the association actively launched a variety of activities, including internal programs, family fellowship, and community service. These initiatives benefited not only the members but also their families, while also demonstrating the association's concern for the community and its social responsibility.
He said that among the most representative community projects is the annual regular blood donation drive, which effectively assists Miri Hospital in maintaining a stable blood supply and embodies the spirit of "giving back to society."

In addition, he said last year’s beach cleaning activity also achieved great results. Despite their busy work schedules, members did not forget to fulfill their social responsibility by jointly maintaining environmental cleanliness and supporting ecological sustainability.
He noted that the above activities will continue and be further improved this year. The association is committed not only to building a cleaner and more sustainable Miri, but also to assisting the hospital in maintaining blood supply and raising public awareness to encourage more participation in community welfare activities.
Chua Tuan Jin also revealed that the association successfully registered last year as a member organization under the Malaysian Media Council (MMC), and was officially confirmed during MMC’s first members’ meeting in Kuala Lumpur last November, marking a significant milestone.
He said the association has paid its first year membership fee of RM10, and this year, MMC has set the annual association fee at RM150, meaning the association must renew its membership every year to ensure continued recognition and legal operation at the national level.
He stated that during this general meeting, several proposals would also be submitted for members’ review and approval. These aim to strengthen the association’s direction, improve management standards, and address the increasingly severe and dynamic challenges facing the news industry. He called for members to actively participate in the discussion, offer valuable opinions and constructive suggestions, and work together to contribute to the association’s future development.
He expressed his gratitude to the council members and all members for their dedication and support over the past year, and hopes that the North Sarawak Journalists Association will continue to develop steadily and keep pace with the times, becoming a key platform for safeguarding journalists’ rights and contributing even more to society.
