(Kuching, 31st) Datuk Fadzrudin, the chief political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, is regarded as a suitable candidate to lead the Football Association of Sarawak (FAS).
According to Datuk Seri Abdul Karim, the Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development of Sarawak, Datuk Fadzrudin's experience and success as chairman of Kuching Football Club (KCFC) demonstrate his talent in football management.
He noted that Kuching Football Club's fourth-place finish in the 2024/2025 Malaysia Super League season is a proud achievement for Sarawak football.
“Based on media reports and feedback on social media, many have expressed their support for him leading the Football Association of Sarawak. Therefore, I believe Datuk Fadzrudin may be the most suitable candidate for the position.”
Abdul Karim said this while attending the 2025 Sarawak International Youth Football Championship (SIYFC25) during an interview with reporters today.
Nevertheless, Abdul Karim insisted that his department will not interfere with the election process but instead respects the democratic procedure and allows anyone to run for the presidency of the Football Association of Sarawak.
Meanwhile, the Sarawak International Youth Football Championship will feature the participation of 12 football academies, with 36 men's teams and 17 women's teams competing from May 31 to June 1.
Teams from Indonesia are also participating in the event, reflecting the international community's support and participation in youth football development.
The tournament includes categories for under-8, under-10, and under-12, which aligns with the state government's initiatives to enhance football talent nurturing.
