Israeli Yesh Atid party lawmaker Topolovsky visited Taiwan once again. The Embassy of Mainland China in Israel criticized him as a “troublemaker for the healthy development of China-Israel relations,” and strongly condemned his words and actions.
According to an announcement published Sunday (September 21) on the official WeChat account ‘Yiguan Weijia’ of the Embassy of Mainland China in Israel, a spokesperson for the embassy, answering reporters’ questions, stated that Topolovsky, disregarding strong opposition and solemn representations from the mainland, “once again made an illicit visit to Taiwan and repeatedly made erroneous remarks regarding Taiwan, seriously violating the one-China principle and severely undermining the political foundation of China-Israel relations.”
Topolovsky has visited Taiwan three times. The first was in April 2024, when he was received by then-Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen; the second time was in April this year, during which he was awarded the ‘Medal of Friendship Diplomacy’ by Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This month, he led a delegation on his third visit to Taiwan, and last Tuesday (the 16th) was received by Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te.
A spokesperson for the Mainland Chinese Embassy in Israel said Topolovsky “met with Taiwan regional leader Lai Ching-te during his illicit visit to Taiwan, ignorantly referring to Lai as ‘president’,” and claimed to “represent the Israeli people” in expressing gratitude to Taiwan. The spokesperson added that Topolovsky repeatedly and openly violated the government’s adherence to the one-China policy, which was obviously “taking benefits from others and working for them.”
In conclusion, the spokesperson warned the lawmaker: “Don’t think you can harm China’s core interests and the national feelings of the Chinese people without paying a price. If you do not stop before reaching the brink, you will inevitably be smashed to pieces.”
