Residents’ Complaints Trigger Enforcement: Illegal Repair Shop Ordered to Stop Operations

(Bandar Seri Begawan, 18th) — An auto repair shop located in Kampung Kapok, Mukim Serasa was ordered to cease operations and dismantle its structures for violating Section 23(2) of the Town and Country Planning Act (TCPA), Chapter 248, specifically for carrying out industrial activities and constructing additional buildings without planning permission. 
According to a statement issued by the Town and Country Planning Department (JPBD), the repair shop was conducting its activities on land designated solely for residential use. 
The activities of this repair shop caused dissatisfaction among residents and affected the quality of life of those living nearby. Following routine monitoring and inspection, the business owner complied with official instructions and suspended the activities. This case was initiated in response to a public complaint. 
The authorities remind the public to comply with planning regulations, particularly Section 23 of the Town and Country Planning Act, which stipulates that no one may carry out land development, subdivide or amalgamate land, or conduct any works within protected areas without planning permission. 
Failure to comply may result in a fine pursuant to Section 23(6), with penalties not exceeding BND200,000; for continuing offenses, there is an additional penalty of up to BND10,000 for each day the offense continues after conviction.
