(Bandar Seri Begawan, 8th) His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei held bilateral talks with Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Khai.
Accompanying His Majesty was Prince Mateen.
During the meeting, His Majesty extended his warmest congratulations to the Prime Minister on his appointment and looked forward to working closely with him to strengthen the friendship and goodwill between the two countries. Both countries continue to maintain good cooperation in areas such as trade, energy, and people-to-people exchanges.
His Majesty recalled his state visit to Vietnam last year, during which he held fruitful discussions with the then General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and current Vietnamese President, To Lam, on advancing the comprehensive partnership. In view of the complex geopolitical situation, both sides must continue to work together and support each other to safeguard the security and prosperity of both nations.
His Majesty pointed out that Vietnam is an important energy cooperation partner, expressed appreciation for the joint ventures established over the years, and welcomed Vietnam’s intention to further strengthen cooperation in the petroleum and natural gas sectors, including the supply of jet fuel (Jet A-1) to meet its needs.
In addition, His Majesty suggested that both sides' private sectors carry out further discussions on this issue. Meanwhile, in other areas of cooperation, His Majesty looks forward to establishing more business-to-business links in the agricultural product processing industry, aiming to achieve a new trade turnover target of US$1 billion by 2030.
The developments in the Gulf region have had an adverse impact on the global order and disrupted the energy supply chain. In this regard, His Majesty reiterated Brunei’s commitment to working closely with ASEAN member states to maintain an open, inclusive, and rules-based multilateral system, which is essential for ensuring long-term stability and prosperity.
Regarding the situation in Myanmar, His Majesty stated that Brunei will continue to support Myanmar in implementing the 'Five-Point Consensus' led and owned by Myanmar.
Finally, His Majesty invited Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Khai to visit Brunei and expressed Brunei’s full support for Vietnam as the APEC host in 2027, wishing His Excellency every success in the preparations.
