(Bandar Seri Begawan, 8th) Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) yesterday handed over two newly constructed homes under its Projek Teduh initiative, reaffirming the bank's ongoing commitment to strengthening community wellbeing and supporting vulnerable families through sustainable social upliftment efforts.
The handover ceremony was held at Kampong Selangan and Kampong Negalang Ering in Temburong District.
The houses were handed over by the Minister of Home Affairs and BIBD Chairman Dato Amin to the beneficiaries: Ama of Kampong Selangan and Maimunah of Kampong Negalang Ering.
Also present at the ceremony were members of the board, BIBD Managing Director and CEO Junaidi, BIBD management and staff, as well as key stakeholders from government agencies and private sector organizations.
This move reflects BIBD's continued commitment to supporting national priorities through meaningful and sustainable Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects.
BIBD focuses on initiatives that improve quality of life and strengthen socioeconomic resilience, ensuring its CSR efforts create lasting value for local communities while reinforcing the nation’s broader development goals.
The construction of the houses at Kampong Selangan and Kampong Negalang Ering commenced on April 8, 2026, and April 10, 2026, respectively. Their successful completion highlights the effectiveness of multi-party collaboration. Stakeholders of BIBD worked hand in hand to support communities in need.
With the close coordination of BIBD, government agencies, corporate partners, business people, and volunteers, the Projek Teduh initiative continues to be successfully implemented, with all parties upholding the shared vision of enhancing community wellbeing through collective action.
This project embodies the philosophy of “whole-of-nation participation,” emphasizing the importance of collaboration and shared responsibility in addressing social welfare challenges. Equally essential is the ongoing support of stakeholders, whose commitment ensures that the impact of the Projek Teduh initiative not only continues but also expands. As more projects move forward, these lasting partnerships will form the cornerstone for future efforts, reinforcing the common resolve to improve community welfare, enhance socioeconomic resilience, and build a more inclusive society.
All funding for the Projek Teduh initiative comes from BIBD’s corporate zakat donations, highlighting the bank’s firm commitment to targeted, value-driven giving.
This initiative has received strong support from BIBD staff, corporate institutions, and merchants, all sharing the same vision of strengthening community welfare and promoting social development. By integrating Projek Teduh with dana zakat, the initiative captures the essence of zakat as a pillar of compassion, justice, and sustainable development. The project directs resources directly to the underprivileged (asnaf), ensuring that aid is not only timely and effective, but also transformative, thereby amplifying its impact. In keeping with the principles of zakat, the initiative exemplifies collective responsibility and the spirit of inclusiveness, enhancing the nation’s social cohesion.
These collective efforts continually reinforce the values of compassion, volunteerism, and mutual support, while reflecting the Maqasid Shariah (the objectives of Islamic law) and BIBD’s “Bruneian at Heart” philosophy.
Through the Projek Teduh initiative, the bank and its partners will continue to firmly support the Brunei government’s drive for inclusive development. BIBD is committed to sustainable community development, ensuring that every initiative makes meaningful contributions to the country’s long-term resilience and prosperity.
