A building under construction in Manhattan, New York, was found to be at risk of collapse on the morning of the 7th, prompting the fire department to carry out an emergency evacuation.
The building is located near Grand Central Station and the United Nations headquarters in New York and has over 30 stories.
The building used to be the headquarters of pharmaceutical giant Pfizer and is currently undergoing a major renovation project to convert the office building into apartments.
According to officials from the New York Fire Department, the morning report stated that bricks had fallen from the building. Upon inspection, it was found that interior support columns were bent and deformed, and several floors had collapsed. For safety reasons, the fire department evacuated personnel from the building and two adjacent buildings.

New York Mayor Mamdani stated that in addition to multiple cracks and floor subsidence, two support columns were bent and deformed. The building remains in an unstable condition. “We have observed that one of the damaged columns has shown further displacement.”
He said: "The situation is extremely serious."
