The Cambodian Army issued a statement on the 29th stating that Cambodia and Thailand have reached an agreement to exercise restraint and avoid armed conflict in the disputed border areas.

The statement said the agreement was reached during a meeting between Cambodian Army Commander Mao Sophan and Thai Army Commander Narongpan at a border checkpoint between Cambodia's Oddar Meanchey Province and Thailand's Surin Province.

The statement pointed out that both parties will continue to resolve issues through all existing mechanisms, such as the Joint Boundary Commission, the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Boundary Commission, and the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two countries in 2000.

On the 28th, the Cambodian and Thai armies had a brief clash in the disputed border area, with gunfire exchanged for about 10 minutes, resulting in the death of a Cambodian soldier. On the 29th, Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet both stated that they do not wish for the conflict to escalate and will ease border tensions through dialogue.
