BBC Apologizes for Edited Speech, Trump Still Seeks Up To $20.6 Billion

US President Trump stated that he will file a lawsuit against the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), seeking compensation of $1 billion to $5 billion (approximately RM4.13 billion to RM20.66 billion). Previously, the BBC had apologized for the misleadingly edited video of Trump's speech, but said it would not pay any compensation.

On Air Force One on the 14th, Trump told the media: “We are going to sue them, for an amount between $1 billion and $5 billion, probably sometime next week. I think I have to do it. They have even admitted to tampering.”

Trump said: “You can imagine, the British public is very angry about what happened, because this shows that BBC is fake news.”

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) on the 13th apologized to Trump for its Panorama program’s documentary, which spliced together parts of President Trump’s speech on the day of the 2021 Capitol riots and misled viewers, but refused Trump’s demand for compensation.

Trump’s legal team sent a letter to the BBC on the 9th, demanding a response by the 14th at the latest to withdraw the relevant documentary, apologize, and make reasonable compensation to Trump for the harm caused, otherwise they would seek $1 billion in damages.
