On the 14th, German Defense Minister Pistorius announced that Germany will invest at least another 150 million euros (approximately 720 million ringgit) to purchase American weapons to aid Ukraine.
Defense ministers or representatives from Germany, the UK, France, Italy, Poland, and other countries, as well as the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, held a meeting in Berlin on the same day. The Ukrainian defense minister participated via video. After the meeting, Pistorius announced that Germany would add these funds under the "Ukrainian Priority Needs List" mechanism.
In August this year, Germany had already announced it would provide about 500 million US dollars’ worth of military aid to Ukraine under the same mechanism.
According to Germany's Ministry of Defense, the "Ukrainian Priority Needs List" mechanism was initiated by the United States and NATO. NATO member countries provide so-called voluntary contributions to fund the purchase of American weapons and technology for Ukraine. The operational method is: Ukraine lists urgent needs, NATO coordinates implementation, the US provides the weapons, and allied countries cover the costs.
German Defense Minister Criticizes Moscow for Being "Inhumane"
Additionally, after Russia earlier on the 14th bombed residential buildings in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, Pistorius stated that this act shows Moscow is "inhumane" and has violated international law.
Pistorius said: "It is clear that Russian President Putin wants to make the Ukrainian winter unbearable, to attack morale and break the will of the Ukrainian people to resist, but he has not succeeded."
Ukrainian President Zelensky stated that Russia attacked Ukraine at night, mainly targeting the capital Kyiv, resulting in four deaths and the destruction of multiple buildings in the city. He pointed out that this was a carefully calculated attack aimed at inflicting the greatest damage on the Ukrainian public and civilian infrastructure.
