(U.S., 26th) U.S. President Trump announced on the 25th that unless pharmaceutical companies set up factories in the United States, starting October 1st, imported branded or patented drugs will be subject to a 100% tariff.
Additionally, he will impose a 50% import tax on kitchen cabinets and bathroom cabinets, a 30% import tax on upholstered furniture, and a 25% import tax on heavy trucks.
Trump emphasized in a social media post that the reason for these tariff measures is that other countries are “flooding” the U.S. market on a large scale, which he described as a very unfair practice. “For reasons of national security and others, we must protect our manufacturing processes.”
Trump stated that heavy trucks and parts manufactured overseas are harming the interests of U.S. domestic producers.
He mentioned that a 25% tariff will be imposed on all heavy trucks manufactured in other parts of the world to support American manufacturers like Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, and Mack Trucks.
He said the truck tariffs were imposed “for many reasons, but most importantly for reasons of national security!”
