(Miri, 12th) Organized by Miri Chung Hua National Type Middle School and co-organized with technical support from the Sarawak Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development and Wenyue Holdings, the 2025 Borneo International Robotics Championship will be held from May 7th to 10th at the Grand Ballroom of Miri's Marriot Hotel.

This event was launched by Datuk Seri Roland Sagah, the Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development of Sarawak, on February 11th at the Kuching Theatre Hotel.

The purpose of this competition is to provide students with the opportunity and platform to gain knowledge and experience. It also aims to equip students with knowledge to face future employment, such as developments in the engineering industry. The robotics competition is organized by the Ministry of Education to promote science and technology, aiming to enhance students' higher-order thinking skills, IT knowledge, robotic invention, and science and industrial research knowledge, as well as to assist them in improving their language proficiency.

This international invitational tournament is divided into five groups: Primary School Group (ages 9-12), Junior High School Group (ages 13-15), Senior High School Group (ages 16-18), Open Group (ages 19 and above), and Robotics Sports Group - Tennis (ages 11-18). It is open to talents worldwide aged 9 to 18, with each group only accepting 48 teams. Each team consists of one instructor and two members.

The event has attracted over 200 teams, with 60 teams from Sarawak, and the rest from various states in Peninsular Malaysia, China, Chinese Taipei, Macau, Vietnam, and Thailand. This diversity in international participation is expected to enhance the competition's recognition and competitiveness.

The competition is recognized by the Ministry of Education and has received the Co-curricular Activity Assessment (PAJSK) certification. Participating and award-winning students will receive extra-curricular activity points, which provide an advantage for Form Five graduates when applying to domestic public universities.

Lai Chia Ling, the principal of Miri Chung Hua, mentioned that this is the third time the school is hosting this competition, and the school is confident in successfully organizing the international event. They are also confident in Miri Chung Hua students' chances of winning. For a long time, Miri Chung Hua has been committed to developing students' potential, fostering their creativity, and expanding infinite imagination space to contribute to society in the future. Miri Chung Hua has represented Malaysia in the International Olympiad Robotics Competition consecutively from 2016 to 2024, gaining extensive experience. She expressed her pride in the outstanding performance of Miri Chung Hua students in this area.

Principal Lai indicated that Miri Chung Hua's robotics team's success is not accidental, thanks to the collective effort of teachers and students who have worked tirelessly. They also received support and guidance from former team members like senior Wu Jialong, and the gratitude embedded in the spirit of Miri Chung Hua students is worthy of high praise.
