The Hong Kong pop-rock band “Dear Jane”, founded nearly 20 years ago, is finally coming to perform in Malaysia for the first time. Looking forward to meeting Malaysian fans for the very first time, lead vocalist Tim Wong (Tim), guitarist Howie Yung (Howie), bassist Jackal Ng (Jackal), and drummer Nice Lai (Nice) all expressed their excitement. In addition to preparing special surprises for Malaysian fans, they have also openly invited fans to request songs and recommend local food, and even hope everyone can introduce scenic attractions in Malaysia for potential MV shooting locations for their upcoming songs.
In a recent online interview with Malaysian media, the four members revealed that upon learning they could finally perform in Malaysia, they immediately celebrated by popping champagne. Howie shared that more than ten years ago, Hong Kong seniors in the music industry kept mentioning how passionate Malaysian fans were, and now they can finally experience it in person. He joked, “We've been waiting for this night for 20 years!”
Besides looking forward to performing, the four have also put food as a key part of their itinerary. Howie laughed and claimed Dear Jane is “the greediest band in the whole industry.” Tim specifically wants to try fresh durians—while they are available in Hong Kong, coming to Malaysia calls for tasting them personally. Nice would like to try dry-style Bak Kut Teh. Tim even joked that he hopes to ask the company to let them stay a few more days, so they have time to 'eat through' all the Malaysian delicacies.
It turns out that over ten years ago, Malaysian fans had already written letters inviting Dear Jane to Malaysia and passionately introducing local food, which left a deep impression on Jackal. Howie further joked, “To win Jackal’s heart, you first have to warm up his stomach!” The four members also invited fans to recommend must-try foods via social media so that they can prepare their food itinerary in advance.
Talking about their bond with Malaysian fans, Howie recalled an incident from over a decade ago when Dear Jane held a fan interaction event. A Malaysian fan commented that they met their significant other because of Dear Jane's songs. This story remains vivid in Howie’s memory, and he offered his blessing online: “I hope you’re still together, I really believe you are because I believe in love. It’s already 2026—when the time comes, bring your kids to meet us, and we’ll have a reunion!”
From a group of young people forming a band to journeying together for nearly 20 years, Dear Jane has experienced various phases and witnessed each other's growth. Tim confided that the original intention of forming the band was simple—'we just wanted to play music, to create our own songs,' and even after another 20 or 30 years, that attitude won't change. Howie feels the four of them have managed to persist together because, although there are challenges in every phase, having brothers at your side makes it worth enduring. Along the way, being able to meet different audiences in different places, and the enthusiastic response they get every time they stand on stage, is the driving force for their continual creation and performances.
