(Bandar Seri Begawan, 11th) The 21st Brunei International School Borneo Global Issues Conference (ISB BGIC) is focusing on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7—Affordable and Clean Energy, attracting over 300 student delegates from 23 schools, including 22 from Brunei and 1 from overseas.
The 21st ISB BGIC is being held from the 10th to the 13th of this month, jointly organized by ISB in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Education, and supported by the Prime Minister's Office Energy Department, the Australian High Commission to Brunei, and the British High Commission to Brunei.
ISB held a press conference on campus today to introduce the conference keynote speakers—Tim Jarvis and British High Commissioner to Brunei Ken O’Flaherty.
Tim Jarvis is a British-Australian environmental scientist, adventurer, author, and documentary filmmaker, renowned for recreating the historic Antarctic expeditions of Douglas Mawson and Ernest Shackleton using original equipment. He holds master's degrees in environmental science and law, has provided sustainability consulting for multiple organizations, and leads climate initiatives such as the "25zero" and "The Forktree Project."
Ken O’Flaherty was appointed as British High Commissioner to Brunei in August 2025, having previously served as the British Acting Ambassador to Myanmar. Since joining the UK Foreign Office in 1996, he has served in Italy, France, Japan, and the European Union, and acted as the COP26 Ambassador for the Indo-Pacific region, contributing to climate action. His diplomatic career covers areas including security, trade, climate, and crisis management.
ISB BGIC is a student-led annual conference in the style of a Model United Nations, where participants represent different countries and present diverse viewpoints on real-world issues. The event aims to cultivate students' global citizenship and enhance their critical thinking skills in research, public speaking, and negotiation.
