(Kuching, 25th) Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari stated that Sarawak looks forward to China becoming an important partner in driving its post-COVID-19 2030 development strategy (PCDS), with great potential for cooperation in areas such as hydrogen energy, digital economy, ecotourism, and higher education.
He said that cooperation between Sarawak and China has already expanded to cover energy, agriculture, trade, and education, and will move to new heights.
"Looking ahead, we welcome China's expertise and partnership to jointly advance Sarawak's hydrogen energy agenda, expand SME e-commerce, develop ecotourism, and turn Sarawak into a high-yield, sustainable tourism destination."
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian represented the absent Premier last night to read the Premier's speech at the 76th anniversary celebration of the founding of the People's Republic of China, organized by the Consulate-General of China in Kuching.
In the Premier's speech, Abang Johari also emphasized plans to establish joint research institutions with Chinese universities in the fields of renewable energy, biodiversity conservation, and healthcare, and called for more sister-city partnerships between Kuching and Chinese cities to promote grassroots connections.
He highlighted that cooperation between Sarawak and China is not just diplomatic, but a key driver, and a source of technology, investment, and wisdom for achieving the joint development strategic goals of Sarawak and China by 2030.
