Southern Thai Armed Men Attack Police Station: Gunmen Fire Wildly, Intense Firefight Erupts

The situation in southern Thailand is heating up again! A group of armed men with unidentified identities and numbers stormed the back of Lamai Police Station in Yala province on Monday morning, wildly firing at the station. Police officers on duty quickly returned fire, resulting in an intense firefight lasting several minutes. The gunmen ultimately escaped by taking advantage of the rubber plantation and forested terrain.

According to comprehensive reports from Thai media and local police, the attack took place around 7:57 a.m. The armed men, carrying firearms of unknown models, suddenly opened fire at the back of Lamai Police Station, located in Yala's main district. Since the back of the police station is adjacent to a rubber plantation and dense woods, it is believed the gunmen had planned in advance and utilized the complex terrain to launch their attack.

During the incident, on-duty police officers inside the station immediately took up tactical positions, returning fire with their service weapons and vowing to defend the station at all costs. Gunfire rang out nonstop, and after several minutes of fierce fighting, the gunmen slipped away along familiar routes amid the chaos.

Once the gunfire ceased, a large contingent of security forces promptly arrived at the scene and sealed off the entire area. The bomb disposal unit (EOD), forensic officers, and rescue teams entered to search the area, check for any explosive devices left behind, collect casings, and examine trajectories, with all efforts focused on identifying the gunmen. Fortunately, the shootout resulted in no injuries to police or civilians.

After the incident, the Yala police immediately ordered the entire province and surrounding areas to enter the highest state of alert. All checkpoints and roadblocks are to rigorously screen suspicious persons and vehicles, with a large police presence deployed to carry out a massive manhunt, vowing to bring the gunmen to justice quickly and prevent similar attacks from reoccurring.

Security authorities believe that the armed men's brazen attack on the police station was intended to sow fear, challenge law enforcement's authority, and disrupt local security. The authorities continue to pursue the suspects and call on the public to remain vigilant, urging everyone to immediately report suspicious individuals or abnormal situations to police.
