Following the revelation that a Malaysia Airlines pilot smuggled 45 million ringgit worth of ecstasy pills into Indonesia, police are now investigating whether drug syndicates are exploiting flight attendants and pilots, using airline routes to covertly smuggle drugs abroad!
The Royal Malaysia Police's Narcotics Crime Investigation Department is currently requesting CCTV footage from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to thoroughly investigate this method of using commercial airlines for covert drug trafficking.
The department’s director, Datuk Husein Omar, pointed out that, based on preliminary police investigations, the Malaysia Airlines pilot involved had no criminal record with the police.
“At present, the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department is still conducting detailed investigations into this case, and it is not possible to disclose more details for now. What is certain is that the suspect has no prior criminal record.”
According to reports, the suspect, who abused his pilot identity, was arrested in Indonesia where authorities seized 25 kilograms worth 70,000 “Ecstasy” pills, and he now faces capital punishment or life imprisonment locally.
Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Customs stated that, upon urine testing, the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine, cocaine, and MDMA ecstasy.
After being notified by Indonesian enforcement agencies, Malaysian police have opened an investigation into the source of the drugs and are verifying whether domestic drug syndicates have started using airline crew to traffic drugs on commercial flights.
