A passenger bus overturned and caught fire after colliding with a motorcycle on the afternoon of the 5th in the Buikwe District of central Uganda, resulting in multiple deaths.
Uganda Police Force Traffic Management Department spokesperson Kananura stated that the accident occurred on the Kisoga-Nyenga Highway near the Makindu Trading Centre. Police and emergency departments have responded to the scene to manage the fire and are in the process of transferring the bodies of the deceased.
He noted that several injured passengers have been urgently taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment, but the number of casualties has not yet been detailed.
According to local media reports, there were over 70 passengers on the bus at the time of the incident, which may have resulted in more than 40 deaths.
Images posted by witnesses on social media show the entire bus engulfed in flames.
