Najib's lead defense lawyer, Shafee, stated that if the High Court rules in favor of his judicial review, the former Prime Minister could be released within a month.
“It depends; if the judge rules in our favor within a month, he (can) return home to serve the remainder of his sentence (at home).”
Shafee made this statement at a press conference at the Palace of Justice.
Reporters inquired when Najib might be released if the judicial review succeeds and the government is compelled to enforce the additional decree issued by the former King, allowing Najib to serve his sentence at home.
Najib's judicial review will be heard by a new High Court judge after Judge Ahmad Jadi Star ruled that Najib could not prove his case was arguable enough to warrant a full hearing of his proposed judicial review application.
When the High Court hears the merits of the case, Najib is also allowed to present new evidence.
