(Kuching, 9th) Sarawak DAP Chairman and State Assemblyman Chong Chieng Jen officiated at the eye-dotting ceremony for the new lions of the Sarawak DAP Kuching Youth Wing Lion Dance Troupe at the Tai Pek Kong Temple today, to bless the people and welcome the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year.
Four new lions were endowed with the eye-dotting, sponsored respectively by Chong Chieng Jen, Kuching MP Dr. Kelvin Yii, Sarawak Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board Chairman and Chong's special assistant Bong Lian Huan, and Sarawak DAP Kuching Youth Wing Deputy Chief Tien Chia Rong. In the absence of Dr. Kelvin Yii, his special assistant and Sarawak DAP Kuching Youth Wing Chief Lundy Khong officiated on his behalf.
The eye-dotting ceremony began punctually at 2 pm, with a lively and harmonious atmosphere on site. As the host announced the start of the ceremony, Chong Chieng Jen and other participants dipped the brush in cinnabar, and in sequence brightened the left eye, right eye, and forehead of the new lions, symbolizing bestowing them with life and spirit.
He then proceeded to paint the lion's mouth, feet, and from head to tail in red, signifying good fortune and smooth sailing.
After completing the eye-dotting ceremony, everyone witnessed the debut of the new lions. Accompanied by deafening gongs and drums, the new lions of the Lion Dance Troupe danced with grace, displaying vigor and joy, attracting worshippers and tourists alike, who eagerly gathered to experience the strong festive atmosphere.
Chong Chieng Jen stated that the Chinese Lunar New Year is an important festival for cultural inheritance, and lion dancing is not only the essence of Chinese traditional culture but also a symbol of peace and good fortune.
He commended the DAP Youth Wing for their practical efforts in promoting culture and strengthening community cohesion and expressed hope that the new lions of the Lion Dance Troupe would bring New Year joy to the community residents during the festive season.
