(Bandar Seri Begawan, 12th) The Embassy of Kuwait in Brunei held a reception at the Jerudong Polo Club Country Club’s Grand Banquet Hall to celebrate the 65th anniversary of Kuwait’s founding and the 35th anniversary of its liberation.

Dato Sofian, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, attended the event as the guest of honour.
Kuwait’s chargé d'affaires in Brunei, Abdullah Obeid, said in his speech that this year's celebration theme—"Our Beloved Homeland, Symbol of Pride, Foundation of Knowledge"—reflects the sense of national pride, the spirit of unity, and a deep commemoration of the sacrifices made by the nation’s forebears in shaping Kuwait’s history.

"These precious moments occupy a special place in the hearts of all Kuwaitis, symbolising a reaffirmation of loyalty and commitment to the homeland, the continuation of our ancestors’ path, and a strengthening of the sense of belonging and dedication to Kuwait and its leaders."
This year also marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Brunei and Kuwait. Since their establishment of diplomatic ties in 1990, bilateral relations have steadily developed underpinned by mutual respect, trust, and shared cultural and religious values.
He stated that the lasting friendship between the two countries reflects the determination of both nations’ leaders to advance cooperation and benefit both peoples.

Over the past thirty years, relations between the two nations have expanded in numerous fields, with high-level engagements marked in particular. These include His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei’s official visit to Kuwait in 2015, and the late Emir of Kuwait’s state visit to Negara Brunei Darussalam in 2016.

Looking ahead, Kuwait expressed its willingness to host the 4th Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) on Economic and Technical Cooperation in Kuwait City at an appropriate time. This meeting is expected to focus on strengthening trade and investment opportunities, as well as promoting cooperation between government agencies and the private sector in areas of mutual interest, such as clean energy, digital technology and Islamic finance, in line with both countries’ development priorities.
Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation, including through mutual visits by senior officials and the convening of the inaugural Foreign Ministers’ level Joint Committee Meeting.
He said: "Against a backdrop of global uncertainty, Kuwait and Brunei underline the importance of strengthening cooperation, especially in economic diversification, and both sides should fully leverage common advantages to build a resilient and prosperous future."
