(Bandar Seri Begawan, 31st) Brunei is currently in the Northeast Monsoon season, and the Meteorological Department predicts that this climate pattern will persist until March 2026. During this period, nationwide rainfall is expected to be above normal, possibly accompanied by various severe weather phenomena, potentially impacting residents' daily lives and safety.

According to the seasonal outlook released by the Brunei Meteorological Department, rainfall in January 2026 is expected to exceed 440 millimeters, significantly higher than normal; rainfall in February is projected to surpass 230 millimeters; rainfall in March will also be slightly above average, ranging between 170 and 200 millimeters.

The Meteorological Department pointed out that from today (Tuesday, December 30, 2025) until January 4, 2026 (Sunday), active weather systems will continue to affect the country, with many areas experiencing occasional heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder, especially from evening to late night hours, and in some cases extending into the early morning of the following day.

In addition, during storms in certain areas, wind speeds may reach up to 45 kilometers per hour; coastal waters are expected to see light to moderate wave heights ranging from 0.8 to 1.5 meters, posing potential risks to small vessels, offshore operations, and water activities.

The authorities call on the public to stay alert and take necessary precautionary measures. Prolonged heavy rainfall combined with rising tides pose flash flood risks to low-lying and riverside areas, and may also trigger secondary disasters such as landslides, fallen trees, and blown-off rooftops.

The Meteorological Department reminds drivers and maritime personnel to pay close attention to the latest weather forecasts and warning information, and to plan their journeys properly to ensure personal and property safety.
