(Bandar Seri Begawan, 18th) According to a statement issued by the Department of Labour, Ministry of Home Affairs, the department will conduct the 2025 annual census on employers, employees, wages, income, and working hours online from October 31 to November 30.
The department calls on all private sector business entities, institutions, cooperatives, associations, clubs, and statutory bodies operating in Brunei to cooperate, regardless of whether they hold a Foreign Worker Permit (LPA) or employ only local workers (without employing foreign workers), with the exception of domestic/personal services, and to fill in the required information through the Business Reporting System (BRS) (http://www.business.mofe.gov.bn).
According to the statement, employers, business owners or managers must submit census data using an electronic account registered in their own name or the name of an authorised individual. The public may also download census completion guidelines from the same website or the department’s official portal website at http://www.labour.gov.bn.
Authorities recommend that employers fill in the census information personally to prevent the risk of confidential data being misused by third parties. The department added that receipts issued for the 2024 census will cease to be valid after October 30.
The statement also reminds employers that, according to Chapter 99 of the 1974 Employment Information Act, the census form must be completed. Failure to fill in or providing false or misleading information constitutes an offense, punishable by a fine of BND 2,500 and up to 6 months' imprisonment; continued non-compliance may result in an additional daily fine of BND 50.
For enquiries about the census, please contact the Employer and Employee Census Services Kiosk (No. 25) at the department headquarters on Jalan Dewan Majlis, or call 2383006/2380256 (ext. 1104, 4503, 4504), or send an email to banci.buruh@buruh.gov.bn.
