Former Phoenix TV anchor Liu Hairuo was involved in a serious train derailment accident in the UK 23 years ago while traveling with friends. Two friends tragically lost their lives, and Liu herself was severely injured and fell into a coma—she was even pronounced brain dead by British doctors at one point. After being transferred to Beijing, neurology expert Ling Feng used a treatment combining traditional Chinese and Western medicine, which miraculously brought her back to consciousness two months later. Over the years, she has settled in Tamsui, withdrawn from the spotlight, and focused on recovery.
Writer Wang Wenjing recently visited Liu Hairuo with former colleague Zhi Yihua, and reminisced about their friendship on Facebook. She revealed that, after the incident, she immediately dropped everything to accompany the families of the deceased to the UK. Although Liu Hairuo survived miraculously, due to brain damage she suffered from short-term memory loss, serious blood sugar problems, and tooth loss, and has been unable to return to a normal life. This long cross-national journey of treatment and rehabilitation has been an ordeal not just for Liu herself but also an indelible wound for her family.
On the day of the visit, Liu Hairuo was very happy to see her two friends. She even joked about wanting McDonald's to satisfy her cravings, but was gently refused due to her blood sugar condition. Wang Wenjing admitted that the brief visit left her feeling both cherished and sentimental, serving as a reminder of the preciousness of a healthy life.
