China National Railway Administration announced on the 16th that the railway passenger traffic and freight traffic for the entire year of 2024 showed stable growth, both reaching new historical highs for the same period, effectively meeting the travel and logistics service demands of the public. In terms of passenger transport, the total railway passenger traffic reached 4.312 billion people, with an annual growth rate of 11.9%, marking the first time the annual passenger traffic surpassed the 4.3 billion milestone.
Among them, high-speed train passenger traffic reached 3.272 billion people, accounting for 75.9% of the total railway passenger traffic in China, with an annual growth of 12.9%; passenger turnover reached 1,579.910 billion passenger-kilometers, rising by 7.3% annually, of which high-speed train passenger turnover was 1,084.549 billion passenger-kilometers, with an annual increase of 10.3%.
In terms of freight, the total railway freight traffic from January to December last year was 5.175 billion tons, with an annual growth rate of 2.8%; freight turnover was 3,586.190 billion ton-kilometers. Among these, national railway freight traffic was 3.985 billion tons, with an annual growth of 1.9%; national railway freight turnover was 3,258.063 billion ton-kilometers.
Additionally, according to statistics, the fixed asset investment in railways throughout China from January to December last year amounted to 850.6 billion yuan (522.408 billion ringgit), an increase of 11.3% annually, with a total of 3,113.4 kilometers of new railway lines, 2,687.2 kilometers of double tracks, and 3,935.8 kilometers of electrified railways put into operation.
