(Kuching, Jan 27) The Federal Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri emphasized that the government will continue to support the development of women's health and family harmony through policies and social welfare programs.
She stated that through the Global Action Plan under her department's Welfare Department, significant results have been achieved. As of 8 a.m. today, 560 children have been successfully rescued and placed.
"Currently, the number of children successfully rescued by Global Brother Holdings is 560. However, there are still 13 children under the management of the welfare department waiting to be taken back by their families. These 13 children include 6 long-term placement children and 7 temporary placement children."
She disclosed that a total of 11 institutions participated in this action, with 5 institutions still receiving child placements. The number of children returned to families is 536 under Section 30(1)(a) of the 2001 Child Act; and 11 children given to suitable and qualified persons for care under Section 30(1)(b) of the 2001 Child Act.
Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri mentioned during an interview after the National Cervical Cancer Awareness Month event that this action demonstrates the government's firm commitment to protecting children's rights.
She called for more families and communities to work together to provide a safe and stable environment for these children to grow.
She said, although most parents have been contacted and agreed to take back their children, some families ultimately changed their minds.
"We respect their choice, but hope that parents prioritize the well-being of their children and take them back as soon as possible to provide them with a stable environment to grow."
She added that to ensure the protection of children's rights, the welfare department has established 9 conditions for receiving children, including providing formal education, and regularly reporting to the welfare department to ensure the children are well cared for.
