KUCHING,16 July: The 6th International Energy Week (IEW) 2025 held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) is poised to generate an estimated USD 2.5 million in immediate business opportunities.
Organising chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Mamat said the projection reflects the scale of cross-border collaborations and commercial engagements sparked at the event.
He said IEW 2025 is not just about deals made on the floor but also the strategic connections shaping the future of clean energy.
“But what excites me most is the long-term partnerships that will emerge from the handshakes happening in these very halls, leading to ventures and solutions that will drive progress for years to come.
“Sarawak is not only resource-rich, it is vision-rich.
“With over 70 per cent of its electricity generated from renewable sources, Sarawak leads Malaysia’s hydrogen economy and is home to the country’s first commercial-scale hydrogen facilities,” said Abdul Rahman at the IEW 2025 opening ceremony yesterday (Jul 15).
He further added that IEW 2025 places a spotlight on Sarawak’s role as a clean energy hub and its ambition to become the “Battery of ASEAN”.
He said the platform also helps position Malaysia as a regional energy leader by supporting national efforts to accelerate energy transition.
“We are showing the world what it means to be the Battery of ASEAN, not only through our resources, but through our policies, people and partnerships.
“This platform is already attracting strategic investments and fostering local talent and building Sarawak’s reputation as a destination for sustainable innovation in the region,” he added.
