DUBS Miri Membership Nears 900, Hafiz Pledges to Continue Advocating for Businesses

(Miri, 27th) — Sarawak Bumiputera Chamber of Commerce (DUBS) Miri Branch Chairman Hafiz Rohani stated that since its establishment, the association has been continuously growing, with membership numbers rising from just over 200 initially to nearly 900 at present, covering various areas in Northern Sarawak and demonstrating strong development momentum.

He made these remarks in his speech last night at the dinner event held at the Southlake Club Restaurant, celebrating the 63rd anniversary of Sarawak's independence, the 40th anniversary of DUBS, and the Gawai Dayak thanksgiving dinner.

He said that this achievement is not the result of individual efforts but is due to the collective hard work of every committee member, volunteer, and entrepreneur, reflecting the “united, stronger” spirit.

Hafiz Rohani emphasized that DUBS is not just an organization but must also go deep into the grassroots, connecting with enterprises, listening to the voices of entrepreneurs, fighting for their rights, and growing together with businesses.

He pointed out that the association has never been afraid to speak up, including on topics such as diesel subsidy, targeted fuel subsidy policy, rising logistics costs, and the high air ticket prices between Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur; all of which the association has actively reflected to the government, submitting suggestions and data, participating in dialogues, and delivering work reports.

"As entrepreneurs, we should not only point out problems but also be part of the solutions."

He stated that with the establishment of Sarawak's own airline, AirBorneo, and the government’s efforts to improve air connectivity and stabilize ticket prices, it will help reduce business operating costs, attract more tourists and investors, and bring more development opportunities to Sarawak.

Additionally, he also referred to the discovery of new oil resources in Marudi, noting that this is not only an energy find but will also bring a wide range of business opportunities to local enterprises, covering sectors such as engineering, transportation, catering, accommodation, and digital fields. He encouraged members to prepare in advance to seize future opportunities.

Hafiz Rohani highlighted that, based on the current nearly 900 members, if each member employs 3 to 5 people, it can create 2,700 to 4,500 job opportunities, and including family members, the impact can reach over ten thousand people. This demonstrates that SMEs are not only economic pillars but are also key forces in community building.

He called for ongoing attention to the importance of stability in the future, including the upcoming state elections, as a stable environment helps businesses plan development, attract investment, and promote economic growth.

He also thanked Sarawak Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Miri Mayor Adam Yii, various government agencies, partners, sponsors, and the media for their constant support and cooperation.

He pledged that as long as he continues to be entrusted to lead the DUBS Miri branch, he will keep speaking out for businesses, actively communicate with all parties, bring entrepreneurs’ issues to the proper platforms, and push Sarawak’s economy toward a more prosperous future.
