(Bandar Seri Begawan, 19th) The 10th (2023-2025) Council of the Brunei Fujian Association will soon reach the end of its term. According to the constitution, the election for the 11th (2026-2028) Council will be held this November.
At the 27th meeting of the 10th Council held on June 4, an election committee was formed, chaired by Fang Yanhua, with members including Vice-Chairman Fang Jin Xing, Lin Peng Kuo, Dato Paduka Chua Li Chu, Wu Guo An, Welfare Officer Cai De Zhi, and Youth Group Leader Cai Xin Zhe, responsible for overseeing related matters.
According to the resolution at the Election Committee meeting on July 2, the nomination forms for the 11th Council election will be distributed on October 6, with the deadline at 5:00 pm on October 30. Ballot boxes will be set up at the Association office.
If nominations exceed the number of positions available (33 council members), the Election Committee will distribute ballots and the candidate list two weeks before the election. Voting will close at 5:00 pm on November 22, and ballots will be publicly counted at 7:00 pm in the Association’s auditorium.
The Election Committee reminds that if members do not receive nomination forms, they may call 2229555 or visit the Association office in person to collect them (address: No.17 & 18, 1st & 2nd Floor, Block A, Bangunan Haji Matusin, Kampong Kiulap, Gadong BE1518, BSB).
According to the constitution, the following are not eligible to stand for election:
(i) Those serving as Honorary Chairperson, Honorary Advisor, Association Advisor, or Legal Advisor. If they wish to run, they must submit a resignation letter in advance.
(ii) Only Brunei citizens or permanent residents (without foreign nationality) are eligible to run; associate members are not eligible. Those who have outstanding membership fees or are currently suspended are also not eligible. In addition, non-members, those with outstanding payments, declared bankrupt, mentally incapacitated, or previously convicted of a criminal offense and imprisoned are not eligible.

The Association published the election notice on September 6 through three Chinese newspapers, reminding members to comply with relevant rules. As tomorrow (the 20th) is the final deadline, those in the above categories who wish to run must submit a written statement to the Election Committee in person before the deadline for eligibility review.
The Election Committee emphasizes that this election will be based on the information provided by members; if complaints arise due to outdated member information, the Association will not accept responsibility.
